Yorkshire Evening Post 20/09/1916 The death is announced in action on Saturday last of Second Liuetenant William M Rhodes, the third son of Mr F Rhodes, manager of the Aberford Branch of Moon's Grocery establishment. Formerly a private in the RAMC, he was recently given a commission.
Yorkshire Evening Post 22/09/1916 Sec-Liuet William M Rhodes, the third son of Mr F Rhodes, manager of the Aberford Branch of Moon's Grocery establishment, who was killed in action last Saturday morning, fell while leading a raiding party. He volunteered for the duty and was shot in the head whilst jumping on the enemy's parapet. Aged about 22 years, Lieut Rhodes was a clerk in the office of Mr William Bateson, Solicitor, Albion Street, Leeds. Until joining the RAMC as a private immediately the war broke. Only recently he was given a commission in the KOYLI's and came home from the front on a short leave a few months ago.
