"TRIBUTE TO A TERRATORIAL"
"Pvt Horace Bradley eldest son of Mr J. F. Bradley Station Rd Tadcaster has been killed in action.
The deceased who was 26 years of age, prior to the war was engaged as a clerk at Mr Samual Smiths Brewery Tadcaster.
His father is a well known traveller for the same firm.
The deceased was in the 1/5th West Yorks and he and two brothers have for some time been doing their duty in France and Belgium.
AUGUST 7TH 1915
"HE DIED DOING HIS DUTY"
In a letter to Mr and Mrs Bradley Captain G. Sowerby says:
" It is with the greatest regret that i have to inform you that your son H.F Bradley,
was killed by a hand grenade in the trenches on the 21st about 5.30 pm
He was buried the same night behind the trenches, a cross being erected.
The service was conducted by Colonal Ward. He was at tea with 3 comrades when the grenade burst over them.
He was an accomplished musician and played the piccalo, and two years ago played in the band of the 5th West Yorks
Your son was a most excellent soldier and was always out at once to help any other poor fellow
who needed his services as a stretcher bearer and i am most sorry to lose him."

TADCASTER PATRIOT WOUNDED
"Harold Bradley son of Mr J. W. Bradley, a brewer Traveller of Station Road Tadcaster has been wounded in France.
His brother Horace was killed in action on the 21 July 1915, another brother his also serving, all three brothers were in West Yorkshires."
YORKSHIRE HERALD JULY 31 1916.
THREE BROTHERS ONE KILLED ANOTHER WOUNDED.
"Of the three brothers Bradley, sons of Mr J. F. Bradley,brewers traveller, originally in the army, one has been killed.
Private Harold Bradley, of the West Yorkshires, has been twice wounded, he joined in the first month of the war.
Corporal John William Bradley, also of the West Yorkshires has been a soldier since 1911, and was an electrician by profession.
The men of the company were complimented for the good work they did during the big gas attack last December."

ACTING CORPORAL EDGAR ATHELENE BROADWITH.

BORN: Wath Upon Dearne. ENLISTED: York. RESIDENT: Sherburn in Elmet.
GAVE HIS LIFE: 27/09/1918. AGED: 39.
CEMETERY: Regina Trench Cemetery, Grandcourt. GRAVE : IX. J. 23.

Edgar was the son of Tristram Broadwith Born Malmerby Ripon 1842 and Mary Ann Gatenby Born Wath 1845 they married at Wath Upon Dearne in 1869.
Tristram was a Railway Labourer, Along with Edgar they had a son John William born 1870 and a Daughter Margaret Born 1869 both at Wath Upon Dearne .
In the 1891 census Edgar was working as a servant, in 1901 Edgar was away fighting in the Boar War according to the newspaper artical below.
In1904 at Tadcaster Edgar married Mary Kavanagh Born Brimmington Derbyshire 1892, she was the sister of John kavanagh remembered on this site, Edgar and Mary had children Lillian Eveline 1908 and Richard B in 1910 both born Tadcaster.
On the 27th of September 1918 the Canadians spearheaded an attack on the Canal Du Nord, heavy artillery supported the Canadians with the British attacking the Germans on a 20 km front, Edger along with the 9th West Yorkshire Battalion was part of this offensive Edgar lost his life on the opening day of the offensive which was called off on October the 1st.

BORN: Tadcaster. GAVE HIS LIFE: 30/11/1917. AGED: 25.

"Son of George Albert and Ellen Isabel Bromet, of The White House, Bishopthorpe, York."

CEMETERY: Cambrai Memorial, Louverval. PANEL: 1.
John was the only son of George Albert born Tadcaster in 1862 and Ellen Isabel ( nee Robinson ) born Islington in 1866.
They married in Marleybone London in 1888.
The Bromet family are a famous Solicitors in the Tadcaster and Yorkshire area.
( The company are mentioned on a regular basis in the London Gazette throughout the 1800s and early 1900s ).
In 1901 Johns father was living with his family in Westgate Tadcaster.

Brass Plaque found in St Marys Church Tadcaster
It reads:
" The chalis and paten used in the Chapel of St Nicholas was given to the Glory of God and in loving Memory of John Neville Bromet Lieut R.F.A.
Who fell near Cambrai Nov 30th 1917 Aged 25."
" Quo-Fas-Et-Gloria-Ducunt."

Richard was the son of William born Tadcaster 1858 who in 1901 was a Railway Porter at Church Fenton Station, and Mary A. born Worcester in 1852.
Richard had one sister Sarah.
