BORN: Tadcaster.  ENLISTED: Malton. GAVE HIS LIFE: 09/01/1916. AGED: 20.

CEMETERY: Basra Memorial Iraq.  PANEL:  3 and 60.

LOCAL MEMORIAL: Tadcaster.

CWGC States:

"Son of William and Jane Elizabeth Fisher, of Vicarage Lane, Tadcaster, Yorks."

Frank's British army Medal Index Card states he disembarked in France on the 28th October 1915.

TROOPER WALTER JAMES FISHER.

 

SERVICE NUMBER: 1216.  UNIT/REGIMENT: Household Battalion.

BORN: Batley.  ENLISTED: London.  RESIDENCE: Tadcaster.

GAVE HIS LIFE: 11/04/1917.   AGED:

LOCAL MEMORIAL: None.

CEMETERY: Arras Memorial.     PANEL: Bay 1.

Walter's British Medal Index Card states that he had origanily joined the 1st Battalion London Guards having the Service Number 3638.

Walter arrived in France on the 15th October 1915, and it states he was Killed in Action.

"Son of Joseph and Ann of  No 9 Sandfield Terrace Tadcaster."

Joseph's British Army Medal Index Card states he joined the West Yorkshire Regiment having the Service Number 4007 before being given the number 201683.

RANK: Private.

SERVICE NUMBER: 15/357.    UNIT: 15th Bn West Yorkshire Regiment.

BORN: Tadcaster.  ENLISTED: Leeds. GAVE HIS LIFE:  09/06/1916. AGED: 26.

LOCAL MEMORIAL: Tadcaster.

John William was the son of John a brewery worker Born 1860 at Stannington Yorkshire and  Edith Annie Starling Born 1871 in Tadcaster they married in 1891.

John William  had  brother's George Arthur Born Tadcaster 1892 and Oliver (mentioned below) and a sister Gertrude Born 1898 at Stutton near Tadcaster.

John would have joined the Leeds Pals in August or September 1914 and after training at Colsterdale near Ripon went to Egypt landing on the 22nd December 1915.

YORKSHIRE EVENING POST LEEDS JULY 18TH 1917.

"Lance Corporal Oliver Garbutt of Tadcaster West Yorkshire Regiment has been killed in action.

An employee at Messers John Smiths Brewery, he voluntered in 1915 and had previousley been wounded.

A brother Pvt  J.W. Garbutt of the Leeds Pals a well known local athlete was killed more than 12 months ago."
