William was the son of John William Born Beverley 1863 and Caroline Born 1862 in Elm Cambridgeshire.

In 1891 the family were living on Kirkgate Tadcaster where John William was described as a Bookseller and Stationer, William and his brothers were born here and had moved by the 1901 census to Sculcotes near Hull.

Thank You to Phil Wadsworth a distant relative of Williams who provided the following details and the picture of William, and his parents visiting his grave.

Dave

"I found your website as it has my 1st cousin, twice removed, William Lancelot Verity, listed as dying in WW1. ie. my great grandfather's brother's son.

The details are correct and he is buried in France. I have attached two photos, either which you may use if you wish.

I would like to visit his grave one day sometime. I think what you are doing is well worthwhile as such sacrifices are too easily forgotten by the present generation.

Although William was born in Tadcaster, he was brought up in Beverley, hence his enrolment in Hull.

He had three brothers, Charles Gordon, John Sidney and James Reginald and a sister Dora. All brothers were known by their second names, not their first, a family trait.

None of the other brothers took part in the war as far as I know."
